2012 Bill Stutt Stakes Nominations Feature Pierro

September 24th, 2012

Gai Waterhouse’s unbeaten youngster Pierro will shoot for their eighth consecutive career victory this Friday night when they debut in Victoria contesting the Bill Stutt Stakes 2012 under the lights at Moonee Valley.

The star son of Lonhro has won seven from seven, including the autumn 2YO Triple Crown, amassing over $3 million in stakes and will look to continue the magic in the $220,000 Group 2 Bill Stutt Stakes (1600m) in their second-up run for the season.

Last seen winning the Group 3 The Run To The Rose (1200m) in Sydney on September 1, Pierro may not have run the Melbourne way under race conditions but they have worked the reverse way in track gallops a number of times including an impressive effort at Randwick early on Saturday morning.

“It has been a long while since I’ve had one work as good,” Waterhouse said of Pierro.

“Simply amazing this horse, he just keeps raising the bar, improving all the time.

“They (the people in Melbourne) are going to see what a star colt this horse really is.

“I couldn’t be happier as we loaded him on to the float (on Sunday).”

Pierro is sure to start odds-on favourite for the 2012 Bill Stutt Stakes as they head towards Australasia’s weight-for-age championship, the $3 million Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) back at Moonee Valley on October 27 for which they are also the short-priced top elect.

Among the more notable other Bill Stutt Stakes nominations that will bravely be taking on Pierro should they accept are the likes of the unbeaten Michael Kent-trained Philippi who has the 2012 Caulfield Guineas as a possible target, the Tony McEvoy-trained Henry Bucks Best Dressed winner Jimando, Danny O’Brien’s O’Reilly colt Shamexpress and Robbie Laing’s untapped youngster Subiaso.

The complete 2012 City Jeep Bill Stutt Stakes nominations are detailed in the table below.
