Inference has been backed into 2016 Stutt Stakes odds of $4.20 with Ladbrokes.com.au and is subsequently race favourite, ahead of Hey Doc ($5), Detective, Tessera and Kaching; all sharing the third line at $6 quotes.

Will Inference justify favouritism and win the 2016 Bill Stutt Stakes, or will one of his talented rivals post an upset?

1st

Tessera ($6)

Godolphin runner Tessera has returned to racing in typically smart form this time and is arguably over the 2016 Stutt Stakes odds at his current $6 quote to win. Taking out his first two starts upon debuting in autumn, including the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes (1100m), the son of Medaglia D’oro colt returned to the paddock after the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) in early March. Resuming this time for seventh in the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m), Tessera ran on for second in the Listed Express Room Stakes (1400m) last time out and will relish a step up to 1600m on Friday night.

2nd

Detective ($6)

Detective is yet to taste anything but success this time, but undoubtedly faces his biggest test so far in the Stutt Stakes and may be vulnerable to the upside of a horse like Tessera. Finishing second in the Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) most notably in autumn, Detective returned this time to win the Davcron Engineering Maiden (1350m) before posting his first black type win in the Express Room Stakes. Blake Shinn will take the ride on Detective from the ideal barrier 5 on Friday night.

3rd

Inference ($4.20)

Inference is yet to contest a race at black type grade, but his form more than warrants a berth in the Bill Stutt Stakes on Friday and he is a leading contender for a first three finish. Returning to the paddock after posting his first race win in the City Of Ballarat Maiden Plate (1400m) in May, the So You Think colt resumed this time for success in the Beach Party Raceday BM70 (1300m) before taking out the Racing.com BM70 (1400m) on September 18th. Dwayne Dunn takes the ride on Inference from barrier 3 on Friday.
